High level delegation from UNICEF carried out a comprehensive review visit to the State Centre of Excellence for Nutrition Interventions (SCoE4N) under the Department of Pediatrics, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Raipur (Chhattisgarh) on June 08, 2026 (Monday). The visit focused on assessing the centre’s ongoing initiatives and efforts aimed at strengthening maternal and child nutrition services and improving health outcomes across Chhattisgarh. The visiting team was led by Christiane Rudert, Senior Nutrition Advisor, UNICEF, Bangkok, Thailand and Marie Claude Desilets, Chief of Nutrition, UNICEF India, along with members from the UNICEF, Delhi team. Prof. (Dr.) Anil Kumar Goel, Programme Director, SCoE4N, coordinated the entire visit and presented an overview of the centre’s major activities, key achievements, and future roadmap. The UNICEF delegation held detailed discussions on the implementation and impact of various nutrition and child health initiatives being undertaken through the centre. The visiting team appreciated the quality of services and acknowledged the commitment and coordinated efforts demonstrated by healthcare personnel in delivering comprehensive nutrition related services. The team toured several key service areas, including the Severe Acute Malnutrition Referral and Advance Treatment (SMART) Unit, Pediatric Ward, Postnatal Care (PNC) Ward, and the Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) Centre and interactions were also held with healthcare professionals, caregivers, and patients to gain insights into service delivery mechanisms. The delegation acknowledged the centre’s significant contribution towards strengthening maternal and child nutrition outcomes in the state and recognized the innovative practices and sustained efforts being undertaken to improve the quality of care and nutrition services. The visit further reinforced UNICEF’s continued commitment to supporting collaborative partnerships and promoting evidence-based nutrition interventions at improving the health and nutritional well being of children and mothers across the state.
