Department of Radiodiagnosis has been inaugurated in the new block of B and B1 at All India Institute of Medical Sciences Raipur on 20th of March 2017 at 5 pm.
The inauguration was done by Prof Dr Nitin M Nagarkar, Director AIIMS Raipur in the presence of the Medical Superintendent Prof Praveen Neema, the Head of the department of Radiodiagnosis Prof Dr NarendraBodhey, the Dean of the institute Prof SP Dhaneria, the Deputy Director (Admin), MrNeeresh Sharma, MrPrajapati, Superintending engineer Project Cell, AIIMS Raipur. Dr R M Chandola, Medical Physicist of Mekhara and Director State Radiation Safety, was also present.
Dr Eli Mohapatra, Dr SaritaAgrawal, Dr Dhanesh Sharma and other faculties from various departments and the staff of the institute were also present during the occasion.
Interventional Radiology suite equipped with a state-of-the-art biplane Digital Substraction Angiography (DSA)unit Philips FD20 20, Dual Detector Digital Radiography unit (Philips Digital Diagnost), Digital OPG (Planmeca), Digital Mammography unit (Hologik) with stereotactic biopsy unit, 256 Slice Dual Energy Multidetector CT (Siemens Somatom Definition Flash) were all inaugurated.
As per the information from Prof Dr NarendraBodhey, the biplane DSA unit is the first of its kind in the state of Chhattisgarh. All types of interventional radiology procedures can be done. Few examples are embolization for hemoptysis (bleeding during cough) for post tuberculosis cases; controlling of post delivery / ceasarean bleeding in females to save the uterus, aneurysm coiling for brain hemorrhage, angioplasty and stenting of neck and brain arteries in cases of stroke, and in blocks of limb arteries.
Digital Radiography, mammography and OPG systems will provide high resolution Xray images of the whole body, breast and of the jaw also for defining various diseases, effects of trauma or screening of cancer , etc.
State of the dual energy 256 slice MDCT has also been installed which can perform CT angiography of the coronary tree in a single heart beat time. This equipment can also differentiate the chemical composition of the kidney stones that can decide medical or surgical management.
The department is already providing routine Xray and Doppler USG services.
The above equipments shall start functioning immediately after the licence of operation is granted by the AERB.
